22. Aug 2023
The time has come again on 8 November 2023. Then the EMRLingua team invites you to its third Neighbouring Languages Conference. After the success of the last edition at the Nell-Breuning Haus in Herzogenrath, this time we will once again organise the event at the Kloster Heidberg in Eupen, which pays tribute to the schools of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine and their commitment to promoting the neighbouring languages German, French and Dutch. At the same time, the digital geography book GeoRegioEMR will be presented on this date and demonstrated to teachers through trilingual workshops. This version of the Neighbouring Languages Conference will also serve as the closing event of the Interreg V project period for EMRLingua, from which our coordination centre ultimately emerged.
.The historic facility of the Heidberg Monastery in Eupen (Belgium) will this time be the venue for the upcoming third edition of the Neighbouring Languages Conference. From 09:30 to 17:00, the focus will again be on the promotion of German, Dutch and French in the schools of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. Once again, an interesting and relevant programme has been put together for all those present.
The morning will be dedicated to the achievements of the EMRLingua Coordination Centre during the Interreg V project period.
First of all, the Minister of Education, Research and Training of the German-speaking Community of Belgium, Mrs. Lydia Klinkenberg, will give the welcome address to the participants. This will be followed by the first highlight of the day: The ceremonial certification of the new Euregioprofil schools and Euregioschools. The certificates will be presented to the schools by Minister Lydia Klinkenberg and Mr. Boris Preuss, Department Director of the Cologne District Government.
Who will be the newly certified schools of the euregional school network? Follow us on social media and discover these schools in the coming weeks.
.Liesbeth Martens, professor of teacher training at UCLL-Leuven, will then give a presentation on "Empowering the Euregional education landscape through shared projects". Given the current state of language teaching in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine, she will share her insights gained during the project.
At the end of the morning programme, there will be a panel discussion with various stakeholders who have been involved during the Interreg V project. The successes of the EMRLingua project will be highlighted, but also the upcoming prospects and challenges for the neighbouring languages in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine will be addressed.
After the lunch break, the entire afternoon will be dedicated to a special innovation: the presentation of the digital geography book GeoRegioEMR.
This tool offers teachers the opportunity to use the linguistic, cultural and geographical diversity of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine as a resource in different teaching and school forms. The digital, bi-differentiated and trilingual material is intended for pupils from the age of 10 to 18.
Under the supervision of Managing Director Johannes Grapentin, the staff of Digitale Lernwelten will introduce all interested parties to the possible uses of GeoRegioEMR in geography, neighbouring languages or interdisciplinary lessons in the course of practical and trilingual workshops.
Interested parties can register for a workshop in German, Dutch or French using the registration form.
Please be sure to bring a laptop or tablet to the workshop!
